About Gartner

Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT), is the world's leading research and advisory company and a member of the S&P 500. Since its inception, Gartner has been providing businesses with indispensable insights, advice, and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities and build the successful organizations of tomorrow. Gartner is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A. and has more than 13,000 associates serving clients in 11,000 enterprises in 100+ countries.

“We realized that to acquire quality talent, our recruitment process was in dire need of automation. Too many of our technical team were simply wasting hours conducting interviews that did not yield the desired results. For us, the foremost criteria was to find a recruitment partner who could tick all the right boxes. ”

Rehana Nisar,
Global Product & Services Recruitment Head, Gartner.

Challenges

Being a company that is the forebearer in evolving technologies, Gartner was always on the lookout for quality talent to join their team. The immediate requirement was at their India office. Gartner has recently acquired CEB, one of the leading Talent management and Recruitment Assessment Companies. This meant that they had in-house access to skill tests. However, even with CEB, Gartner was unable to get tests in the latest technology and this hampered their hiring plans.

On reviewing their hiring process, the recruitment team zeroed on key elements which needed improvement.

Offline mode of assessments::

Gartner had a traditional way of pen-paper assessments, wherein the candidates were required to come to their office and appear for the assessment. Getting candidates to come to their office was a major challenge as candidates were reluctant to travel long distances for assessments.

Time spent to review assessments:

Since all the hiring decisions were taken by their US office, the recruitment team in India had to scan all the assessments, send them over email, and wait for their decision makers to revert. This would take a minimum of 2 working days.

Operational Efficiency:

The entire process took an enormous amount of time. First, the recruitment team had to follow up the candidates to appear for the assessment at their office, monitor the entire process, and later send the assessments to USA. This created lots of administrative hassles and operational delays.

Solution

To tackle their stumbling block, Gartner considered various solution providers, including CEB, which was their in-house company. However, Gartner was also looking for an assessment partner that not only fulfilled all its requirements but also valued Gartner to provide a top-notch service. After researching a few potential partners, Gartner narrowed it down to iMocha.

Skill library:

iMocha provided a comprehensive skill test library created by Global Subject Matter Experts, which were apt for the job profiles. Addition of latest technologies helped Gartner to assess candidates on the updated skill versions.

Remote assessments:

iMocha provided Gartner the flexibility of remote assessments with web proctoring. Gartner could now allow the candidates to take the tests from the comfort of their homes and at a time suitable for them. Web proctoring ensured that the assessment was taken in a fair manner by the candidate.

Assessment creation:

Hiring managers were actively involved in the creation of assessments which helped in creating customized assessments that assessed various aspects of a candidate’s skill and knowledge.

Intelligent reports:

Reports were auto-generated after the assessments which helped in making informed decisions. This meant that only those candidates who performed well in the assessments were called to the office for further interviews.

The Result with iMocha

Once Gartner started using iMocha, they could see the changes themselves. Not only were the operational costs reduced but the time spent on the entire process was cut by a large margin.

Increase in candidates taking the assessments:

Earlier it was a hassle to get candidates to their office to give the offline assessments. With iMocha’s online testing solution, Gartner increased its candidate base by almost 40% as candidates could attempt the assessments from their home that too at a convenient time.

Improvement in candidate relevancy ratio:

As compared to earlier, there was a 60% increase in only relevant candidates getting called for interview. The precise and in-depth assessment results made sure that only relevant candidates made it through the first phase.

Cut down in time-to-fill:

The time-to-fill ratio was reduced by almost 55%. The work of 2 days was cut down to mere minutes which boosted the hiring time.

The Future : Expand Usage of iMocha

Using iMocha has led to astounding results for Gartner. They now have so much confidence in iMocha’s science of assessment that they are looking forward to expanding the usage of iMocha across other teams and geographical locations as well. Besides this, Gartner is also keen on using Behavioral assessments that will be rolled out soon.
